Dr. Diego Mureño, Principal

¡Saludos a todos!

It is both a privilege and an honor to serve the Culbreth Middle School community as Principal.

I am the proud son of two Mexican immigrants, Rocky and Martha. My parents, now retired, live in Veracruz, México, while the rest of my family resides in the mountains of Western North Carolina. After graduating from high school, I attended Lenoir-Rhyne University as a North Carolina Teaching Fellow, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish. I later completed a Master of Science in Online Teaching & Instructional Design from Lenoir-Rhyne University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from High Point University. Most recently, I earned my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from UNC Greensboro.

My career in education began in middle school as a 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Newton-Conover Middle School. I later served Newton-Conover City Schools as an Administrative Intern and Elementary Dual Language teacher before joining Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in 2021. During my five years at Carrboro High School, I had the privilege of serving as Assistant Principal, Associate Principal, and Interim Principal.

When I am not at school, you can find me strolling down Franklin Street, discovering new restaurants, working out at Chapel Hill CrossFit, or enjoying a well-earned nap.

I am excited to begin this new chapter with the Culbreth community and look forward to partnering with our students, staff, and families. I know this will be an incredible year- Go Cougars!

In Service,

Dr. Diego A. Mureño

–

Atentamente,

Dr. Diego A. Mureño

Wendy York, Assistant Principal

Greetings,

I am excited to be part of the Culbreth family and to continue a journey centered on growth, service, and leadership in education. After earning my Bachelor's degree from High Point University, I taught at Northeast Randolph Middle School and Siler City Elementary School before joining CHCCS, where I have had the privilege of supporting students in both their academic and behavioral growth. Along the way, I also earned my Master's Degree in School Administration from Western Carolina University. This journey, while rewarding and challenging, has continually reinforced for me the importance and power of collaboration within a school community.

On a personal note, my husband is my unwavering support, our son serves as a firefighter in Greensboro, and his wife is a nurse. Together, they have blessed our family with two joyful granddaughters who bring us endless happiness.

My professional vision is to foster an inclusive and safe environment where students and staff can thrive without limits. Together, we can empower our students and make a lasting impact. I look forward to connecting with you, learning more about your children, and partnering to help shape their brightest futures. As a united village, we can make a difference, and your support is invaluable on this journey.
